Don’t Believe Everything Google and AI Tell You

If you still trust Google and the responsible behavior of artificial intelligence (AI), it might be time to reconsider.

Last week, Google quietly altered its pledge regarding AI responsibility. The company no longer considers it unethical to develop AI for use in dangerous technologies.

Previously, Google's AI principles clearly stated that the company would not develop AI for:

  • Weapons or technologies whose primary purpose is to cause harm or injure people directly.
  • Surveillance systems that collect or use data in ways that violate internationally accepted norms.

However, these international norms seem to have once again been discarded. After all, they only serve as an obstacle to development.

Google has now quietly removed these principles from its policy, making it clear that AI can now be used for developing tools of destruction and control.

As if AI wasn’t already being used for these purposes, Google has now explicitly confirmed it. In some ways, at least they’re being honest about their intentions.

Google’s Real Intentions with AI Development

Google has long shown willingness to develop AI for both military and surveillance purposes. It is therefore pointless to discuss this as a "policy change"—the shift had already happened, and now they are just admitting it.

The company profits from information, whether it’s true or false, while users pay with their personal data.

So, let’s be clear—Google is already one of the world’s largest surveillance entities, and expecting it not to further develop AI for such purposes is simply naive.
